“It is very beautiful,” said Abdul Sesay, gazing at the award. “This is something I have been working towards.’’ Moments after leaving the pitch, Sesay expanded on his delight to his fans. “I’m very happy,” he said. “It’s a special award for me to win the man of the March award. It’s a great achievement. I’m so proud! It’s a great honour for me. I therefore dedicate it to my family, my fans, and my team mates and technical staff.
But to what does
Sesay attribute his ability to keep on breaking records, scoring and winning
trophies? "Sacrifice," he said. Without sacrifice, you can’t achieve
anything. It’s down to my dedication, my passion, my ambition, and working hard
all the time. This is why I will continue to be at the top of my team in terms
of performance, trophies, goals, and records.
The technical
and artistic skill that epitomizes football (soccer) has captivated audiences
for several decades in Sierra Leone. Compared with other sports, football's unrestrictive
rules allow players to create countless variations of tricks, skills, passes
and shots. This capacity for novelty has seen "the beautiful game"
grow into the most popular sport in the country. In particular, dozens of
unique goals have been scored in the Sierra Leone Premier League. (Sierra
Leone’s most prestigious league.) The best of such unique goals could be
attributed to Abdul Sesay, Diamond Stars’ forward.
Many sports-loving fans will forever remember Abdul Sesay for his teamwork skills and the incredible goal he scored for Diamond Stars FC during their encounter with the Republic of Sierra Leone Arm Forces (RSLAF) at the Makeni Wosum field. His fierce skills and contributions towards the three goals scored by teammates add impetus to make him the favourite candidate for the Man of the Match award. Sesay's goal was artistically sensational, as he managed to pick up the ball in the middle of the pitch, skillfully dribbled between three defenders to slot the ball at the back of the net of the opposition goalkeeper. The game ended four to one (4-1) in favour of Sesay’s side.
So far, Sesay
has eight (8) goals to his credit in the ongoing Sierra Leone Premier
League.
